The
Micro SD format was originally called
T-Flash and then TransFlash before being
re-named Micro SD when adopted by the
SD Card Association.
Micro
SD cards come in capacities of 256MB,
512MB, 1GB & 2GB. The format is
currently supported primarily by mobile
phone manufacturers, including Kyocera,
Motorola and Samsung. Micro SD cards
can be used in secure digital (SD) compatible
devices via the included adapter.
The
exceptionally small size of Micro SD
/ TransFlash cards (11mm x 15mm x1mm)
allows mobile phone manufacturers to
incorporate significant amounts of removable
storage capacity into their smaller
handsets without changing the physical
size of the phone. TransFlash uses advanced
packaging technology and SanDisk's latest
NAND MLC flash memory and controller
technologies.
